Honda Pilot Driving in a wooded area

If you're in the market for a reliable and versatile Honda SUV, look no further than the 2024 Honda Pilot and Passport. These two popular SUVs offer a range of features and capabilities to suit the needs of families and adventure-seekers. Both vehicles are excellent options if you're looking for spacious seating, ample cargo room, or off-road power. In this article, we'll take a closer look at these two impressive vehicles, comparing their designs, performance, interiors, and more to help you decide which is best for you.

Pilot Overview

The 2024 Honda Pilot is a family-friendly SUV renowned for its spacious interior and adaptable seating configurations. With three rows of seats, it's an excellent choice for passengers who prioritize comfort during long road trips or daily commutes, ensuring everyone has ample space to relax.

The vehicle's versatile cargo area can be configured to accommodate a variety of gear, from sports equipment to luggage and more. Whether you're hauling kids to soccer practice or embarking on a family vacation, the 2024 Honda Pilot has the space and flexibility you need.

Passport Overview

If you crave a bit more adventure, the 2024 Honda Passport is the perfect companion. This rugged SUV boasts a bold, sporty design that hints at its all-wheel drive (AWD) capabilities. With a higher ground clearance and more aggressive styling than its sibling, the Pilot, the Passport can handle a wide range of driving conditions.

Despite its rugged exterior, the Passport doesn't compromise comfort. The vehicle's versatile two-row seating configuration provides space for up to five passengers, with plenty of room for gear in the back. This makes it a fantastic choice for those looking for a comfortable city commuter with plenty of room for groceries, sports gear, and more.

Exterior Design

While the 2024 Honda Pilot and Passport share some design elements, the Pilot has a more traditional silhouette. It boasts a longer wheelbase and a boxier shape that maximizes space. The Passport has a more compact and sportier look, with a shorter wheelbase and a more aggressive front grille. The Passport sits higher off the ground, giving it a more commanding presence.

The Pilot is the larger of the two vehicles. It measures 199.9 inches in length, 78.5 inches in width, and 71 inches in height. The Passport is slightly smaller but taller, with a length of 189.1 inches, a width of 78.6 inches, and a height of 72.2 inches.

Both trims offer a selection of trims, so you can choose the one that best suits your lifestyle. The Honda Pilot has the Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition. The Honda Passport has three available trims: the EX-L, TrailSport, and Black Edition.

Performance and Capability

The 2024 Honda Pilot and Passport share a powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine, producing 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The Pilot has a 10-speed automatic transmission while the Passport has a nine-speed, but both deliver smooth and responsive shifts.

The Pilot has an available AWD system, whereas the Passport comes standard with AWD, making it a popular choice for those who drive in muddy or snowy conditions. Both tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, making them ideal for hauling small boats, trailers, or other gear.

The front-wheel drive (FWD) Honda Pilot earns an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, while the AWD gets 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. This is slightly better fuel efficiency than the Honda Passport's 19 mpg and 24 mpg, respectively.

Interior Features and Technology

The Pilot comes with a standard 7-inch touch screen on the base trim and a 9-inch touch screen on the higher trims. The Passport comes with a standard 8-inch touch screen. Both feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, allowing you to connect your smartphone and access apps and playlists.

The Pilot has a 10-speaker audio system, whereas the Passport has a seven-speaker system and a 10-speaker system on the Elite trim only. Standard safety features with Honda Sensing include a Collision Mitigation Braking System, a Road Departure Mitigation System, and a lane departure warning.

Seating and Cargo Space

The Pilot offers three rows of seating for up to eight passengers. The second row features captain's chairs or a bench seat, while the third row seats three. The Pilot offers 18.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. With the third row folded, this expands to 48.5 cubic feet or 87 cubic feet with both the second and third rows folded.

The Passport offers two rows for up to five passengers. The second row features a 60/40 split-folding design to expand the cargo area. With all seats in place, the Passport offers 41.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row or 77.9 cubic feet with the second row folded.

The Pilot and Passport offer plenty of legroom for passengers in all rows. The Pilot offers 41 inches of legroom in the front, 40.8 inches in the second row, and 32.5 inches in the third row, while the Passport offers marginally less legroom, with 40.9 inches in the front and 39.6 inches in the second row.

Pricing and Value

The Pilot's base LX trim has a starting MSRP of $39,900, the Elite trim starts at $52,780, and the Black Edition at $54,280. Honda's Passport starts slightly higher, at $41,900 for the EX-L trim, while the top-of-the-line Black Edition trim starts at $47,970.

Even at their highest trim levels, these SUVs offer excellent value for the money. With their spacious interiors, powerful performance, and advanced safety features, both vehicles are well equipped for modern families.

Value comes down to your personal preferences. The main differences are the Pilot's third row, which allows you to seat more people, and the choice between FWD or AWD. The Passport has standard AWD, a utility package for towing, and roof rack cross rails for carrying mountain bikes or extra cargo.
