Safety is undoubtedly important while driving in Hanover, Pennsylvania, especially if you use your vehicle to transport your loved ones. Many automakers have recently invested heavily in advanced safety technology suites, and Honda is leading the pack. Although Honda has always included various passive features that make its vehicles extremely safe, the automaker has now introduced Honda Sensing. Read on as our team at Ciocca Honda of Hanover shares what Honda Sensing is and some of the suite's safety features.
What Is Honda Sensing?
Honda Sensing is an innovative system composed of various safety and driver assistant features, all of which work to keep you and your loved ones safe on the road, regardless of where you're heading or how long the journey is. With cameras and sensors around your Honda vehicle, the system can help you monitor your surroundings and alert you when it detects you're at risk of a collision.
What Safety Features Does Honda Sensing Include?
Honda Sensing includes the following features to keep you safe on the roads in Hanover:
Collision Mitigation Braking System
The collision mitigation braking system (CMBS) is an advanced feature that helps you avoid a frontal collision. It'll automatically give you visual and audible alerts if it detects the risk of a frontal collision with a pedestrian, a car ahead of you, or an oncoming vehicle. If the risk of a collision increases and you take no action, it'll continue the alerts and begin to apply light braking. If the system detects an unavoidable collision, the CMBS will automatically apply brake pressure to stop the vehicle and reduce the impact of the collision.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is a safety feature we've seen integrated into many vehicles for years. Honda has designed the ACC feature in its vehicles to intelligently control braking to ensure you maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicles in front of you. It also automatically adjusts your car's speed, so you don't have to. This feature can give you peace of mind and reduce your effort of accelerating and braking when you head out from Hanover for a road trip with your family.
Road Departure Mitigation System
The road departure mitigation system (RDM) increases safety by preventing you from changing lanes or drifting out of detected lane markings. The RDM will automatically alert you and apply mild steering torque to help you maintain proper lane position if it detects that you're drifting out of your lane without a turn signal. It'll even apply brake pressure to slow your vehicle's departure from a detected lane.
Traffic Sign Recognition
Traffic sign recognition is a great driver assistance feature that helps you follow traffic regulations in your area. This safety technology system uses a small camera to detect roadside signs. It relays the information displayed on the sign through the infotainment screen, instrument cluster, or head-up display, helping you stay within the speed limit and navigate your area without worrying about traffic violations.
Lane-Keeping Assist System
Honda has designed the lane-keeping assist system (LKAS) to improve long highway drives when you might drift out of your intended lane. It uses a sensor camera on your vehicle's windshield. The camera scans road markings and relays tactile and visual warnings to alert you if your car starts to drift from its lane without signaling. If you begin drifting, you'll see a warning on your vehicle's infotainment screen, and the LKAS will automatically provide corrective steering to help keep your vehicle in the detected lane.
Blind Spot Information System
The blind spot information system (BSI) from Honda enhances driver awareness. This safety feature detects and alerts you to other cars on either side of your vehicle when you attempt to change lanes. The BSI uses radar to scan around 10 feet to each side of the car and approximately 15 feet back from its front doors.
When the BSI detects a vehicle occupying the adjacent lane, it'll automatically display a visual warning on your car's side mirror. If you switch the turn signal to change lanes, you'll see that same visual warning flash, and you'll hear an audible beep.
Cross-Traffic Monitor
The cross-traffic monitor helps increase your awareness when backing up your car. It uses sensors on the rear corner areas to detect if an oncoming car is within 82 feet of the system. When it detects the presence of another vehicle, and you're traveling around 6 to 16 mph, it'll automatically issue visual and audible alerts. It may also give alerts for bicycles, pedestrians, or stationary objects.
Auto High-Beam Headlights
When driving at night above 25 mph without vehicles ahead, your Honda's auto high-beam system can automatically turn on the high beams. The system uses the camera on the vehicle's windshield to detect vehicles ahead. When it detects a vehicle ahead of you, the system will return to the low beams, making driving at night convenient.
