Nowadays, it can be a little confusing when you're trying to figure out how often you should change the oil in your car. The rule of thumb used to be that you should change your car's oil every 3,000 miles or every three months, depending on which came first. But in this day and age, you should be able to go anywhere from 5,000 miles to 10,000 miles in between oil changes, depending on what kind of car you have and the type of oil it uses.
To make it easier for you to work out when you should change the oil in your Honda, you should pay close attention to its oil life indicator. This indicator will tell you when you need to take your Honda to a service center to have its oil changed. You'll also need to remember to reset the oil life indicator after each oil change. Here are the steps that you'll need to take to reset your oil life indicator after having an oil change so that you know when it's due for another one:
Turn Your Honda On Without Starting It Up
First things first: In order to reset the Oil Life indicator in your Honda, you're going to need to turn your car on. But you aren't going to want to start it up. If you happen to start your Honda when you're trying to reset your Oil Life indicator, it's not going to work. You'll need to make sure your Honda is in park mode, then turn it on without starting it so that you're able to put it into accessory mode.
Push the HOME Button on Your Honda's Steering Wheel
Once you turn your Honda on, the next thing you'll need to do in order to reset your Oil Life indicator is find the HOME button, which is situated on your steering wheel. While there are a few buttons on your steering wheel, it's easy to spot as it has HOME written on it. You should push the HOME button once without holding it down.
Roll the Left Selector Wheel To Find MAINTENANCE
After you push the HOME button on your Honda's steering wheel, you'll want to find the left selector wheel, which will also be on your steering wheel. You can roll this selector wheel up and down to go through the different options available to you. You should sift through these options until you find the one that says MAINTENANCE. This is where you'll find your Oil Life indicator. When you land on MAINTENANCE, you can go ahead and push the left selector wheel down to choose it.
Look For the Oil Life Indicator and Hold the Selector Wheel Down
When you've found your way into the MAINTENANCE option, you'll be so close to resetting the Oil Life indicator. You'll once again want to use the left selector wheel to flip through the different options in the MAINTENANCE category until you land on the Oil Life indicator. When you locate it, hold the selector wheel down to select it.
Use the Selector Wheel To Choose "Item A Only" or "All Due Items"
When you reach this point, you'll be on the verge of resetting your Honda's Oil Life indicator. But there'll be two different options to choose from: you can either only reset the Oil Life indicator or reset the Oil Life indicator along with the indicators for some of the other maintenance steps required for taking good care of your Honda.
If you changed your oil and also took care of other maintenance, you'll be able to select the "All Due Items" option. From there, simply press the selector wheel one more time, and you'll have successfully reset your Honda's Oil Life indicator.
Start Driving Again and Monitor the Oil Life Indicator
